WESTERN PENSION & BENEFITS CONFERENCE- webinar

December 15th marked the date that Ilene Ferenczy presented a webinar to the governing board of the WPBC on “Ethics and Professional Responsibility.”


NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF PENSION ADMINISTRATORS – webinar

Ilene Ferenczy conducted a webinar on “An Ethical Person in Today’s Business Environment” for NIPA members on December 12th.


ASPPA VIRTUAL CONFERENCE – webinar

On December 8th Ilene Ferenczy was in Washington DC with a few other industry experts to present a virtual conference to several hundred ASPPA members.  A variety of topics were covered during the day-long event and CE credit was available.


ASPPA BENEFITS COUNCIL – Cleveland, OH

Ilene Ferenczy spent December 1st in Cleveland presenting a full-day training seminar to area practitioners on a variety of topics, including DOL Update: Fiduciary Rules, Safe Harbor Mid-Year Amendments, Compensation, New Favorable Determination Letter Program,; Mergers and Terminations, and Plan Corrections.


ATLANTA WORLDWIDE EMPLOYEE BENEFITS and ASPPA BENEFITS COUNCIL SEMINAR- Atlanta, GA

On November 17th, Ilene Ferenczy presented a lunchtime seminar to local practitioners on “Legislative Update: Year-End Review of Legal Changes Affecting Benefit Plans.” The event was co-hosted by the Atlanta WEB and ABC chapters and was held at Maggiano’s Restaurant on Peachtree Street.


ASPPA REGIONAL CONFERENCE – Cincinnati, OH

This fourth and final 2016 regional conference hosted by ASPPA was held on November 16-17 and educated attendees about current regulatory, legislative and administrative topics, as well as gave participants the chance to discuss employee benefits issues with colleagues, national government representatives, and private-sector experts from all over the Midwest. Ilene Ferenczy was one of the industry expert presenters at the conference. These two-day sessions covered the same topics in each area of the country, and were designed to provide thought leadership and exchange information on the latest trends and ideas facing retirement plan professionals.


CAPITAL INVESTMENT SERVICES and NATIONWIDE FINANCIAL- Callaway Gardens, GA

Ilene Ferenczy was the featured presenter at a November 14th seminar for plan sponsors in the south GA and Auburn, AL area co-hosted by these two financial advisory firms.  She discussed how the new fiduciary regulations specifically affect plan sponsors.


ASPPA BENEFITS COUNCIL GATEWAY – St. Louis, MO

On November 9th, Ilene Ferenczy was in St. Louis to present a half-day training seminar to the pension practitioners in the area.  She presented three topics:  “Keeping Current: Washington Update,” “Ethics in Retirement Plans,” and “Plan Corrections That Every TPA and Financial Advisor Should Know.”


ASPPA ANNUAL CONFERENCE – National Harbor, DC

As ASPPA celebrated its 40th Anniversary during the Annual Conference this year, Ilene Ferenczy and Alison Cohen were there supporting the celebration. Ilene presented a session on “Ethics and Co-Fiduciary Liability with 3(16) Services and Their Implications,” as well as participated in the always popular “Current Events” session featuring a host of pension notables. On the day prior to the conference, Ilene also attended the ASPPA Leadership Council meeting, and she stayed on at National Harbor after the conference to attend a national meeting of the NAACI.


NATIONAL WOMEN IN PENSIONS – Atlanta, GA

Ilene Ferenczy was one of a panel of four senior professional women in the pensions industry addressing the metro Atlanta area WIPs members on October 20th at the Buckhead Club. The discussion focused on womens’ career development and work/life balance.


JOHN HANCOCK NATIONAL TPA DAY SPEAKER LUNCH – Southern CA

Alison Cohen traveled to southern California to do a legal update presentation at this October 18th luncheon for local area TPAs.


ASPPA BENEFITS COUNCIL OF NORTH FLORIDA – Jacksonville, FL

Ilene Ferenczy traveled to Jacksonville on September 20 to present a half-day seminar to pension practitioners in northern Florida during their annual training meeting. Three topics were on the agenda: “Multiple Employer Plans,” ERISA Litigation,” and “Tax Consequences of Plan Disqualification.”


TRANSAMERICA BUSINESS OWNERS CONFERENCE – West Palm Beach, FL

On September 15th Alison Cohen was in West Palm Beach to present “Avoiding Those Whoops Moments” to the company’s guest business owners. The discussion covered how to implement a triage/escalation system internally to minimize risk for the TPA, an overview of the new DOL Fiduciary Rules for TPAs, and practical tips for practicing within your boundaries.


ASAE RETIREMENT TRUST – Atlanta, GA

Alison Cohen presentted “Don’t Be Asleep at the Switch: Engage in 401(k) Best Practice Approaches Now to Avoid Pitfalls Later” on September 8th.


FIS ADVANCED PENSION CONFERENCE – Chicago, IL

FIS Global once again hosted its semi-annual Advanced Pension Conference during September 7-9 in Chicago. Ilene Ferenczy was one of the main speakers.  This year’s conference was held at the Westin Michigan Hotel. Ilene co-presented the opening general session, “Keeping Current,” a session for all participants devoted to the recent developments with Congress, the IRS, the DOL and the courts. She also co-presented a general session on “The New Fiduciary Regulations,” and multiple sessions on “Negotiating With the Governmnent” and “Current Topics in Mergers & Acquisitions,” as well as serving as a contestant in the popular “Pension Jeopardy” contest and as a panelist for the “Ask the Experts” closing session.


PENSION FINANCIAL SERVICES SEMINAR – Atlanta, GA

August 23rd was the date that Ilene Ferenczy presented a seminar at Maggiano’s – Perimeter to area financial advisors on “The Final Conflict of Interest/Fiduciary Definition Regulations:  Do I Care and Why?” Pension Financial Services hosted the well attended event.  This was a follow-up workshop to a similar one that PFS hosted in March for area plan advisors on fiduciary issues.


AMERITAS – Cincinnati, OH

Ilene Ferenczy’s “midwest tour” concluded on August 18th with a trip to Cincinnati to present a full-day training workshop for local Ameritas company associates, as well as satellite company groups via videoconference. The topics for this training were “Mergers & Acquisitions,” “Multiple Employer Plans,” “Compensation Consternation,” “Affiliated Service Groups,” Participant Loans,” and “Survivor for the Auto Enrollment Plan.”


INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF CERTIFIED EMPLOYEE BENEFIT SPECIALISTS – Indianapolis, IN, and

ASPPA BENEFITS COUNCIL OF NORTHERN INDIANA – FT. Wayne, IN

On August 16th and 17th, Ilene Ferenczy traveled to Indiana to conduct back-to-back all-day training seminars for two different pension practitioner groups. This training included credit for 7 hours of CE (which included ERPA credit), including 2 Ethics hours. Topics in addition to Ethics were an intensive Washington Update and “Nightmare on TPA Street.” On August 16th the Central Indiana chapter of CEBS hosted Ilene in Indianapolis to present to their membership.  On the 17th, Ilene was in Fort Wayne presenting the all-day program to the area ABC members.


PENSIONPRO SOFTWARE USER GROUP MEETING – Nashville, TN

Ilene Ferenczy presented two sessions of interest to third-party administrators at this annual meeting sponsored by PensionPro for their software users – “Nightmare on TPA Street” and “TPA Practice Hot Topics.” CE credit, including for ERPA, was available for the participants.


WESTERN BENEFITS CONFERENCE – Seattle, WA

This four-day conference was designed specifically for retirement and health and welfare benefits professionals, with an emphasis on practical issues of importance to plan sponsors and their advisors.  Sessions addressed the latest industry devleopments to keep practitioners current. Ilene Ferenczy co-presented two sessions, “Mergers and Acquisitions: How to Turn Benefits M&Ayhem Into M&Agnificent,”  and “Government Correction Programs:  How to Negotiate with the DOL, IRS, and PBGC.”  In addition, she facilitated a panel discussion on “Ask the Experts: Defined Contribution Plans.”


ASPPA REGIONAL CONFERENCE – Boston, MA

This third of four regional conferences educated attendees about current regulatory, legislative and administrative topics, as well as gave participants the chance to discuss employee benefits issues with colleagues, national government representatives, and private-sector experts from all over the East Coast. Ilene Ferenczy was one of the industry expert presenters at the conference. These two-day sessions cover the same topics in each area of the country, and are designed to provide thought leadership, and exchange information on the latest trends and ideas facing retirement plan professionals.

On June 28th, Ilene Ferenczy presented a webcast to the national ASPPA membership on the topic of “Nightmare on TPA Street.”

This Chicago conference also provided attendees with the chance to discuss employee benefits issues with colleagues, national-government representatives, and private-sector experts from all over the Midwest. The conference’s programs also educated attendees about current regulatory, legislative and administrative topics.


ASPPA BUSINESS COUNCIL OF ATLANTA – Atlanta, GA

Ilene Ferenczy presented an overview of the new fiduciary regulations to area ABC members on June 14 at a luncheon seminar entitled “The Final Conflict of Interest/Fiduciary Definition Regulations:  Do I Care and Why?”.


ASPPA WOMEN’S BUSINESS LEADERS FORUM – New Orleans, LA

From June 6-9, Ilene Ferenczy attended and was one of the speakers at this annual forum designed specifically for the unique perspective of women entrepreneur-owners and key decision-makers in the pension administration and actuarial services industry.  Ilene discussed “Ethics for the TPA Business Owner,” as well as moderated related roundtable discussions afterward.


ASPPA BUSINESS COUNCIL ANNUAL MEETING – New Orleans, LA

Ilene Ferenczy was one of the two representatives from the local Atlanta ABC chapter attending this annual gathering on June 3-4.
