FUTUREPLAN BREAKTHROUGH CONFERENCE – Austin, TX
On January 15th, Ilene Ferenczy was in Austin at this national sales conference to give a keynote presentation on “Current Trends in the Industry.”
NIPA BUSINESS MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE and BOARD MEETING – Scottsdale, AZ
Ilene Ferenczy traveled to Camelback Mountain Resort outside of Phoenix from January 8-13 to attend a Board meeting, as well as presented during this annual conference for NIPA members. Her presentation was a general session for all attendees on “Risk Reduction: Things You’re Doing Without Realizing It and How to Avoid That Risk.” In light of legislation passed just prior to the conference, she added a segment to her presentation covering the SECURE Act. Following the conference Ilene traveled back to Phoenix to provide training sessions to two TPA firms in the area.
TRANSAMERICA VIRTUAL ADMINISTRATOR’S CONFERENCE – Webcast
Transamerica engaged Ilene Ferenczy to present a segment of their annual virtual conference for administrators. She took the virtual stage on December 4th and brought the participants up-to-speed on “New Hardship Regulations, and New Self-Correction Rules.”

WESTERN PENSION & BENEFITS COUNCIL – Webcast
Ilene Ferenczy presented a webcast to the members of this organization on November 19th. The topic was “Ethics – The Fun Way.”
FOX RIVER AREA PENSION PROFESSIONALS – Appleton, WI
The Board of this independent regional professional group invited Ilene Ferenczy to conduct a full-day training workshop for their members and clients on November 13th. The topics that were included were “How to Turn Benefits M&Ayhem Into M&Agnificent,” and “Controlled and Affiliated Service Groups,” as well as “A Rainbow of Distribution Issues.” Despite the snowy weather, the workshop was well attended.

On October 17, Ilene Ferenczy co-presented (together with Deb Rubin of Transamerica) a program on Multiple Employer Plans (MEPs) to the local chapter membership.
ASPPA BENEFITS COUNCIL OF CLEVELAND – Cleveland, OH
Ilene Ferenczy traveled to Cleveland on September 25th (following her attendance at a two-day NIPA Board meeting in Chicago) to conduct a full-day workshop for the local ABC chapter. The topics for the day were: “Keeping Current: Washington Update,” “Be Your Client’s Hero!: Lessons Learned from Litigation,” The 12 Steps of Handling a Failure,” 3(16) Services: Should I or Shouldn’t I?,” EPCRS 2019: Revenue Procedure 2019-19,” and Ethics and Professional Responsibility.”
FIS ADVANCED PENSION CONFERENCE – Chicago, IL
During September 4-6, Ilene Ferenczy was one of the main presenters at this semi-annual conference. The topics Ilene presented this year were “Keeping Current: Washington Update,” “Mergers & Acquisitions,” and “How Service Agreements Can Save Your Practice.” In addition, Ilene was a panelist on the “Ask the Experts” panel and a participant in the ever-popular “Pension Jeopardy” contest.
ASPPA BENEFITS COUNCIL OF GREATER TWIN CITIES – Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN
The practitioners in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area had the opportunity to attend a full-day workshop presented by Alison Cohen on Tuesday, September 10th. She will be covering: “Learning to Love Auto Enrollment and Case Studies; “The Art of Plan Takeovers”; “Case Studies in M&A”; and “Plan Termination.”

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF PENSION ADMINISTRATORS (NIPA) LEADERS FORUM – Chicago, IL
Ilene Ferenczy, as a member of NIPA’s Board of Directors, attended a leadership forum August 8-9 designed to connect volunteer board members and association executives from from various national organizations. The program was designed to provide thought-provoking insights on current issues and trends while also offering attendees an opportunity to learn from one another and from selected thought leaders in the association community.

On July 16th, Ilene Ferenczy and Alison Cohen co-presented a very well-received training webcast for Nationwide’s TPA Partners on fraud prevention: “Identity Theft: Understanding the Risk.”
On June 27, Ilene Ferenczy presented a webcast to the ASPPA national membership on “Lessons Learned from Litigation.”

Ilene Ferenczy was invited to present two sessions at this annual conference for area pension practitioners. Her topics were “Be Your Client’s Hero!: Lessons Learned from Litigation,” and “Keeping Current: Washington Update.” She also was a panelist on the “Ask the Experts – DC” session.
National Association of Actuaries and Consultants (NAACI) – St. Petersburg, FL
During May 20-22, Ilene Ferenczy attended NAACI’s semi-annual meeting in Florida. During the course of the meeting she made a presentation on Multiple Employer Plans (MEPs) and whether one made sense for the organization to put into place.
PENSIONS ON PEACHTREE – Atlanta, GA
Ferenczy Benefits Law Center’s annual conference was held on May 16-17 this year and it was a rousing success. Ilene Ferenczy, Alison Cohen, and Derrin Watson again teamed up with educators from FIS to present a two-day collection of timely pension-related topics, and the conference provided several opportunities for participants to interact with the instructors and pose questions. Of course, the annual BBQ at Ilene’s home was also one of the highlights.
ASPPA EASTERN REGIONAL CONFERENCE – Philadelphia, PA
Ilene Ferenczy was in Philadelphia on May 9-10 to present to regional practitioners during this annual conference. Her topics were “EPCRS Self-Correction Case Studies” and “ERISA Litigation Update.” She also served as a panelist on “Ask the Experts.”

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF PENSION ADMINISTRATORS ANNUAL CONFERENCE – San Diego, CA
April 28-May 1 marked the date of the NIPA Annual Conference. Both Ilene Ferenczy and Alison Cohen presented sessions. Ilene’s topics were “A 3(16) Conversation” and “What ‘Transactions’ in a Plan are ‘Prohibited’ and What Does That Mean?”, and Alison’s topics were “Plan Corrections in Real Life – EPCRS” and “Ethics – NIPA’s Code of Conduct.” In addition, Ilene, Alison, and Adrienne Moore hosted FBLC’s first “NIPAmania Soirée,” an evening of fun, good food, and networking at the San Diego Zoo. Ilene also attended the NIPA Board meeting during the two days prior to the conference, and during the same time period Alison presented three additional sessions to local area pension organizations.

PENSION EDUCATION COUNCIL OF ATLANTA (PECA) SEMINAR – Atlanta, GA
PECA hosted a two-part seminar for local pension practitioners, “The DOL and More: From the DOL’s Lips to Our Ears,” on March 18th at the offices of Invesco Global Management, Inc. The first half of the program featured Alycya Henderson, J.D., a Supervisory Benefits Advisor for the U.S. Department of Labor–Employee Benefits Security Administration in the Atlanta Regional Office. Ms. Henderson discussed qualified plan audits and DOL field investigations. Alison Cohen presented the second half of the program, a discussion of the new online IRS VCP submission processes, which will become effective April 1, 2019.
On February 14th Alison Cohen presented a webcast to the national membership. The topic was the date-appropriate topic, “The St. Valentine’s Day Loan Massacre: When Good Loans Go Bad.” CE credit was available to registrants for the webcast.
FIS ADVANCED PENSION CONFERENCE – Orlando, FL
FIS once again sponsored their semi-annual conference in Orlando for pension practitioners during February 6-8. Ilene Ferenczy and Derrin Watson were part of the faculty, covering a variety of benefits topics. They were also part of the “Ask the Experts” panel, and tested their knowledge along with others in the popular “Pension Jeopardy” game.
